Spox: Sberbank confirms attempt to steal money by staff

MOSCOW, Jul 3 (PRIME) -- Russia’s biggest lender Sberbank confirmed on Tuesday an attempt to steal a large amount from a client’s account with involvement of some employees, a bank’s spokesperson told PRIME.

The Interior Ministry office for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region earlier reported an attempt to steal 40 million rubles from an account of a Sberbank client by presenting savings certificates.

“We confirm the incident. The suspects were identified after an internal investigation by the security service of the bank and an application was sent to the law enforcement authorities,” the spokesperson said.

“The participants of the fraudulent scheme were identified; they were both employees of the bank and third parties. The employees were immediately fired after the investigation, the money was fully returned to the clients.”
